Chhaupadi

In the most remote and isolated parts of Nepal, a sexist tradition still persists. Women, when they menstruate, are ostracized from the community. They are considered impure. Even less so are they allowed to climb a mountain; the gods might become angry. To help draw attention to this injustice, Edurne Pasaban joins an expedition in which five young women from the region set out to climb the sacred Mount Saipal, an icy mass that dominates the entire area.

Edurne brings her experience as a climber and her open and positive vision of femininity. Together, they will open a window of change and hope for the women of the Himalayas. In this film, the feminist revolution begins with climbing.
